Coastal Cottage Progress Update!

Happy Sunday!

I thought I’d catch you up on what I’ve been working on this past week. I’m making slow but good headway on the cottage, the downstairs is getting its wall treatments and baseboard, and the interior door has been glued into the divider wall.

I love its airy, beachy feel! Even though there’s still lots to do I can already tell it’s going to have the feel that I’m after. It’s speaking misty sea air mornings to me, and I can imagine opening the windows to let the breezes blow in off the water.

Can you hear the waves? I can.

The wooden floor boards have been painted downstairs. I’ve chosen to do a very clean palette of cream and grey, depending on the room. They will be nicely sanded and distressed for a gently aged look. I love a chunky baseboard. They still need to be painted white of course.

Can you hear the waves? From the front porch you can just peek over the dunes and sea oats for a glimpse of the sea.

One of the custom pieces I wanted to build for this cottage was a pretty built in fireplace mantel and firebox. I have the first two coats of paint on and more work to do. I’m considering a sooty brick interior to add some rustic charm. And it needs a little firewood bundle of course!

A cottage by the sea…there’s no place I’d rather be.

The porch roof needs more of an angle! I have things taped in place so I can see what needs to be changed. Shutters are also in the works.

Well, that’s pretty much it for now! I’ll have another update for you next week!
