Coastal Cottage Style

Hello all,

It’s been a busy week here! I’m working on a new little cottage and that means lots of tiny tedious work. I’m installing wooden floors and shiplap, bead board walls, and wainscot. This cottage will be done up in a soft mix of coastal greys, creams, browns, and blues.

I want it to feel cozy and very East Coast. I imagine smooth wood floors on bare feet, the sound of seagulls and ocean waves, and a crackling fire at night in the hearth. Maybe a foghorn somewhere off in the distance. A small house with a big wrap-around porch for sipping your coffee on in the morning. A cozy blanket around your shoulders because it’s misty and cool in the morning sea air.

That being said it’s humid and hot here in real life. The cicadas are humming and we’ve started our summer rain/thunderstorm pattern here in Central Florida. My garden is grateful for the water! I am not a fan of the heat so so I’ll live vicariously through this little coastal cottage for now.

I made a trip to Hobby Lobby this last week and found some pretty new minis! They inspired a little photo shoot with some coastal inspired colors and textures. The blues are so lovely! I will be using this color/texture combo in the cottage, as well as some of these actual dishes and platters.

Coastal colors and textures

A tiny handmade driftwood sailboat. I need to make more soon!

A miniature seashell collection

After I did this mini photo shoot I felt inspired to add some summer decor to our home too! Does that ever happen to you? Art inspires us real life, doesn’t it?

Old bottles in clear, blues, and greens, displayed in an antique medicine cabinet.

One of my handmade driftwood sailboats, and a chalkboard made from an old headboard.

A little seashell wind chime, hung on an old window.

Can you tell that I like old things and lots of beachy colors, and textures in real life too?

We live about an hour from the beach. Most days I wish we lived closer… but let me tell you, when hurricane season hits I’m relieved we live a bit inland! Yikes!

Next week I’ll have some sneak peeks of my little coastal cottage for you. I’ll get a ton done on it this week, and it’ll be available for purchase within the next few weeks! Yay!

Wishing you a lovely weekend,

~ Jenna
