The Perfect Mouse Cupboard
Hello! How was your week?
This may seem like an unlikely post given that my craft is making and selling custom dollhouses, but I couldn’t resist sharing one of my own favorite ways to make a quick and charming “dollhouse” for your favorite mouse or dolly, or just as a pretty way to display your miniature furniture and decor. What is my secret? A charming old cupboard, of course!
Welcome to my little mouse house. It’s cozy and dark, just the perfect thing for mice.

I found my chippy kitchen cupboard on Facebook Marketplace, for $30. What especially drew me in was the old crackled paint and the rusty latches and hinges. The lady that sold it to me recommended that I replace the glass in the doors as “it’s old and covered in paint,” as well as “stripping it entirely.” Well you can see that I have not done either of those things and have no plans to! Cracked paint and old glass are welcome here! I can’t imagine wanting to erase that glorious patina, can you? Check out the newspaper that’s lining the shelves. So cool!

Miss Mouse had a little accident with the flour. Oopsie!

Her little dust pan and broom will make quick work of it.
Carry on Miss Mouse, we’ll continue our tour in the living room!

A cozy fire is lit in the hearth, and a steaming pot of chamomile tea is ready to be served. How do you take your tea? Sugar or cream?

Miss Mouse is whipping up some cinnamon rolls in the kitchen. I do hope she hurries so we can sample her baking!

The kitchen is outfitted with the essentials; a sturdy wooden work table, a generous porcelain sink complete with drain pans, an icebox, and a nice new oven that gets piping hot. It bakes the best buttermilk biscuits, I’ve heard told.
I do have some French milled soap on order, as apparently Miss Mouse has used her supply. All of that good cooking leaves plenty of washing up to do, I suppose!
One floor down is the bedroom.

A sweet little bed made up with linens that have been hung on the line to dry is the best luxury! Miss Mouse has sewn herself up a nicely plump goose down pillow, I see.
It looks like she has also found a pretty wash basin for her dresser, and a rocking chair to rock her baby mouse to sleep in.

A little sewing room/ library seems like the perfect thing!
The last room is the washroom. It is smartly set up so that the washing on the line can drip dry into the tub. It does get cold and drafty down here so opening the windows for a breeze helps immensely! A little dry sink and a basin and pitcher set complete the scene. Baths are taken quickly with only a bit of hot water on tap! Oh my!

Well, that’s it for my cozy little mouse cupboard. Did you enjoy the tour? I hope I have inspired you to think of some creative ways to display your pretty miniatures (and little critters, if you have them!).
After all…A fancy dollhouse is always a lovely thing to have, but the most humble cupboard can make a perfectly charming home for a little mouse!
I’ll see you next week!
